More than tiling

Windows change.
Your intent stays.

A typical window manager sees rectangles and moves them. Snapper sees roles — the main task, supporting material, communication, monitoring — and treats every change as a decision with inputs: observed facts, hard constraints, your explicit intent, your valid history, named rules. Heuristics come last. That is what makes a layout resilient to everyday change.

App restart

The window disappears, but its role remains. When the app comes back, it returns to the right zone.

Display changes

Your layout lives on a virtual surface, not on the monitor. Unplug a screen, close your MacBook, come back to your desk — the surface is re-bound, the scene is recomputed, nothing is lost.

Session changes

New and closed apps don’t break the order. The layout adapts naturally to whoever is present.

Virtual surfaces

Your layout lives on a surface,
not on a monitor.

A monitor only presents a surface. Unplug it and the surface keeps its layout; plug it back and the surface returns. Hardware topology never rewrites your logical workspace.

Presentation, not ownership

Each workspace is a persistent virtual surface bound to a display by an explicit rule. Reconnecting a monitor is a fact, not an intent — nothing moves until a rule says so.

Swap workspaces

Two monitors, two surfaces: swap them in one atomic step. The whole logical workspace moves with its layout and roles; a third monitor stays untouched. Ambiguity means no action, never a half-move.

Minimal effect

Every action makes the smallest change that satisfies your intent. Point at one window and Snapper will not reorganise the whole app; point at two displays and it will not touch the third.

Observe a lot, keep almost nothing

Snapper observes much, persists the minimum, logs almost nothing and never transmits. Window titles never reach the log in plain text. Uninstall keeps your data; wiping it is a separate, explicit step with a verified backup first.

Menu bar, Spaces and multiple displays — the way the platform intends. Distributed directly, signed and notarised; window management needs Accessibility, which the App Store sandbox does not allow.
